Ankle Sprain Course Mechanics and Management

About Course

Master the essentials of Ankle Sprain Management, a critical skill for any practicing physiotherapist or sports clinician. This physiotherapy cpd course provides a systematic review of the latest evidence in diagnosis, focusing on the high-yield ATFL injury, syndesmotic sprains, and the crucial Ottawa Ankle Rules.

Attendees will learn the principles of Optimal Loading and early functional rehabilitation to quickly progress patients to weight-bearing and dynamic balance exercises. Key strategies for recurrence prevention through neuromuscular training are detailed, alongside indications for surgical management, including the Broström repair. Enroll now to minimize chronic instability risk and ensure your patients achieve optimal, long-term functional recovery from ankle injuries.

Physiotherapy CPD Course Objectives

Upon completion of this physiotherapy cpd course, participants will be able to:

1: Differentiate Ankle Sprain Grades: Accurately apply the clinical grading system (Grade I, II, III) based on ligament damage, presence of mechanical instability, and end-feel on stress testing, to guide immediate patient management.

2: Formulate a Phased Rehabilitation Plan: Construct and justify a progressive, three-phase functional rehabilitation program, detailing the transition from acute pain management (POLICE) to strengthening (peroneals) and advanced neuromuscular/proprioception training.

3: Identify Indications for Surgical Referral: Recognize specific ankle injury patterns—including acute unstable syndesmosis injuries (high ankle sprains),chronic mechanical instability persisting beyond 3–6 months, and displaced osteochondral lesions—that warrant orthopedic consultation.

4: Evaluate Long-Term Prognosis and Risks: Educate patients on the long-term prognosis, the significant risk of chronic ankle instability (CAI),and key warning signs (e.g., persistent giving-way) that necessitate further investigation to prevent posttraumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA).
